Ilius S is the first long pimpled rubber with “Absorber Sponge Heavy” technology developed by Butterfly. The top sheet is quite hard with pimples whose aspect ratio is at the highest limit permitted. The combination of the top sheet and “Absorber Sponge Heavy” makes it easier to push and to return an opponent’s attack with a low defensive shot with heavy or minimal spin. The rubber is recommended for defensive players, enabling subtle changes as well as stability in rallies.

 

The top sheet is the most important element of long pimpled rubbers, and the same top sheet has been adopted for both the Ilius S and the Ilius B. To bring out the characteristics of these long pimpled rubbers, the pimple shape was designed to be as thin and high as rules allow.

In addition, the durability of the top sheet has more than doubled* compared to the Feint Long III, which has a similar pimple shape, this is due to the compounds used to achieve durability whilst maintaining the performance of the rubber.

Butterfly has developed sponges such as Spring Sponge that have contributed to the evolution of the offensive game. Using knowledge gained through those experiences, during the development of the Ilius series we not only focused on developing new top sheets which are often seen as the important element of long pimpled rubbers, but also focused on the development of new sponges that add to the variation.
As a result, the British green Absorber Sponge Heavy used in Ilius S and the Turquoise green Absorber Sponge Drop used in Ilius B were developed.

The two sponges are hard; the hardness of “Heavy” is 45, and the hardness of “Drop” is 48. If the sponge is hard, the pimples will bend more, thus greater effects will be obtained. Generally, the harder the sponge, the more difficult it is to control as the speed of the ball off the racket gets faster. However, Absorber Sponge Heavy/Drop absorbs the energy of the opponent’s ball well even during hard impact, so you can have high stability while taking advantage of the variation.

60 years of Tamasu Butterfly in 2010 - a reason to celebrate 

Success has a name

On December 19th, 1950, Hikosuke Tamasu founded Tamasu Co., Ltd. in the small town of Yanai City, Japan. This was the beginning of a company career which is almost unique in table tennis.

The company founder Tamasu was a renowned international for Japan at his time. He fulfilled his dream of a lifetime when half a century ago he made his hobby his profession. At that time he could hardly imagine that he would make Butterfly the leading brand worldwide.

Support individuality

Creativity, durability and a profound technical knowledge meant success. Over and over again he looked for new possibilities in order to optimize techniques by innovative playing material. “Each player is different. Each one has his strength and weakness. By offering individual playing material I wanted to help players right from the beginning to emphasize their individuality”, he describes his company philosophy.

The breakthrough came 1960 and 1962, respectively, when Butterfly ALLROUND D 13 and TEMPEST D 13 were introduced. The greatest success, however, was the introduction of SRIVER in 1967, which is one of the most used rubbers worldwide. With the launch of BRYCE in 2000 a new generation of rubbers became popular. Its newest implementation is the High Tension system. Even though thus rubber won more than 30 world championships it has constantly been improved in order to cope with changes in the game. Butterfly’s most recent innovation is called spring sponge. Its secret lies in the unique sponge technology, which is introduced in the 2008 Tenergy series.

Own research center

Since 1983 Butterfly has its own training and research center in Tokyo in which highly qualified scientist co-operate with world class players and coaches for the development of rubber and blade technology. Since many years Butterfly rubbers and blades are used by more than half of the participants at World and European Championships.

The new Butterfly Technical Center was opened in Tokorazawa in April of 2006. Here, researchers are able to work under ideal conditions using the most recent technologies. Rubber and sponges are adjusted to the specific needs of the different markets and new innovations are introduced.

Living table tennis

Mr. Tamasu is convinced that table tennis keeps young and fit. ”Table tennis really is a life time sport and ideal specially for older people”, he adds. This view is also shared by the management, along with CEO Shunsaku Yamada (since 2005), who carries this motto all over the world. There is almost no country on earth which does not have friendly relations with Butterfly.

By the way, friendship and peace mean a lot to Mr. Tamasu. Due to his horrible experiences during WW II he deliberately chose BUTTERFLY as company name because this stands for peace, spring time and joy.

Since 33 years in Moers

Tamasu Butterfly Europe was founded in Moers, Germany in 1973. Ever since it has been contributing to the firm’s worldwide success. The affiliate works with representatives from all over Europe. The subcompany creates new collections including gear products, tables as well as various other table tennis equipment, which are sold world wide.

Focus on young players

Two of the most promising young European players, Timo Boll and Michael Maze, have long term contracts with Butterfly. Many European coaches will support Mario Amizic to find more talented players for Butterfly. Japan’s ambition to regain to the top of the ranking bore fruit due to the extensive focus on young players. Among others, the most uprising athletes who lead the way are Mizutani, Kishikawa, and Takakiwa. Apart from those youngsters Butterfly has many experienced world class players, such as Zoran Primorac, Werner Schlager, Christophe Legout, Zhang Yining, and Tamara Boros.

Quality and service

Rubbers and blades are certainly Butterfly’s main products. But also in other fields, such as textiles, accessories, tables and many more. Butterfly offers a wide range of high quality equipment. “Quality and service come first” is Butterfly’s motto.

Work on the future

The table tennis industry is obviously aware of the decreasing number of players. Still, table tennis is an attractive game for kids and adolescents. Associations, clubs, and the industry, but also professional clubs and players are asked to stop this negative trend. The period stated within which you will receive your order is approximate, except where specific next-day or named-day delivery options are selected. Goods will be sent to the address given by you in your order and stated in the Order Confirmation. Please note that your goods may be part-shipped.  
 
Any items that are received damaged or incorrect will be considered for repair, replacement, part-replacement or refund if reported to Tees Sport within 30 days of receipt. Please note that where blades and rubbers are concerned the ratings given are a general guide and are not binding in terms of fault if they don’t precisely agree with the interpretation of any particular individual.
 
In the event that Tees Sport or products sold by Tees Sport are at fault postage costs for returns will be liable to be refunded up to the value of £5.00. Exceptions to this will be considered for returns weighing more than 1kg. Products which are claimed to be faulty and weigh more than 2kg (e.g. robots etc.) can be arranged to be collected by Tees Sport (or an agent acting on behalf of Tees Sport) via a courier service. This service will incur no cost to you if the product is verified as faulty. If the product is verified as not faulty upon its return the product will be returned to you subject to a £30.00 carriage charge, which must be paid in advance of its return.
 
Tees Sport may employ an agent to act on their behalf for the handling of servicing or claims regarding fault of certain products (e.g. robots). This does not affect your statutory rights, however, you may be required to discuss all aspects of any such claim with Tees Sport's third party agent to the point that the issue is resolved.
 
In the event that Tees Sport or products sold by Tees Sport are not at fault, all postage costs for returns will be liable to be paid by you and items must be returned in their original condition and packaging. Notification of the return of goods in these circumstances must be made within 14 days from the date of receipt.
 
In the event that a price reduction has been introduced for any goods after a purchase has been made, Tees Sport will provide a part-refund for the difference between the price paid for the item and the reduced price introduced on condition that a claim for such a part-refund is made within 14 days of receipt of the goods.

If your delivery address is outside of the United Kingdom you maybe subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. Any such additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you. You should note that customs policies vary widely from country to country; Tees Sport advises each customer to contact their local customs office for further information. 
 
From time to time Tees Sport may engage a 3rd party to fulfil orders, a contract for the sale of these products will be made between the 3rd party supplier and yourself.

If Fedex are unable to provide a satisfactory outcome or valid proof of delivery then we will pursue a claim for loss. Furdeco  Courier Delivery

- Used for full-size table orders only.

- Delivery timescale is postcode dependent, but estimated at 7 - 10 working days. You will be contacted via email or phone within 2 working days of the order being placed to advise of the nearest available delivery date and 3-hour timeslot in your area, at which time you can choose an available delivery date and timeslot that best suits you.

- In the event that products other than full-size tables are also included in an order, these products will be dispatched via one of the other delivery services above, depending on the products selected, separately from the table/s at the earliest available date, unless specifically requested otherwise by you to be dispatched later.
